Winchester was a very long way for me, so I probably wouldn't do it again anyway, but the ents have put me off going again. Trouble is you can't please all the people all the time. Lots of people liked the school disco, definitely a lot more than would enjoy a sub face off! Personally I liked the folk band, but then others may not. I couldn't organise 2CVGB entertainment at all, wouldn't presume to try. I mean I was the only reject in bed by 9.30!

It won't be at Winchester again - nobody knows for sure where it'll be next year, since nobody's put forward a proposal to organise it yet. It moves around the country according to the volunteers to run it.

190 miles isn't _that_ far, though... The furthest International for us was probably Stirling - a bit over 400 miles each way.

Umm, why? It's not a music festival, after all. The bands or disco or whatever are just a bonus, a bit of background to the evening nattering with everybody. If they're good, great. If not, ignore 'em.

Of the three bands at Winchester, I caught the end of the second Saturday night one - superb - and a bit of the Sunday evening band. The main bar had a bit less lively an atmosphere with them, though they didn't seem THAT bad - so I wandered through into the other room, and had a chat.

I was in the bar on Friday, but I don't even recall there being a disco on, let alone whether it was any good or not (no, not for that reason... - just too busy chatting)

btw, if you think they were bad at Winchester, you ought to see what gets dredged up at some of the continental events... <grimace>

I'm with Russ on this one. I think the only thing that's irritated me about the club is the reaction that is rolled out when someone comments/complains about something.

There is no way on earth that everyone at a "National" (500 people?) will all like the same music/food/drink/aspect/slope/location/etc so why get so touchy when someone say's they don't? Perhaps, for their own sanity, those that get offended shouldn't volunteer again. Roll out the "you do it then" record when someone complains that there are no events left to go to.

If the people volunteering can't cope with it, don't do it. I have organised an event and frankly it was a bit shit, I didn't enjoy it (the organising) at all and I won't be doing it again.

And most of all it's not the saying, it's the way it's said. Patronising smarmy "oh we've just found our next dj/chef/organiser/editor etc". Wind's me up everytime!

Sorry to go on.

You know that's not the intent, though, right? There was an implicit smiley (as ever) which probably should have been explicit.

It's the same line everytime and I'm not sure everyone who say's it means it "with a smiley"

Anyway I think I'm not finding a way of getting my point across either... I do know that after all the hard work it's a bit of a kick in the teeth when someone complains, but heck!

I wish the saying went more like "ok you didn't like whatever, but at the end of the day we did our best" rather than that sort of aggressive "oh we've found the chief whatever organiser"

I hope you get what I mean. :?

Actually just so this thread doesn't run away with my comments, I did say that the day before I had got back from a week long psytrance festival in Portugal and NOTHING seemed very good then. Its about me rather than 2CVGB. Another time and I may well have enjoyed the ents, who can say?

Everything else about Winchester was super! it was great meeting up with fellow 2CVers and the convoy into the city. :D :D loved it!

p.s. coz I got lost and my sat nav was no good it took me 9 hours to get there!!

The way I see it, most of the time it is the intent to give a smarmy 'no way you can argue this point' reply.

Simply being a volunteer shouldn't give you free reign to ignore what people want and be resolved of any responsibility, and volunteers should accept that they will inevitably receive criticism.

I can only speak for myself, of course, but I know most of the others who've posted similar things well enough to say that I doubt that's their intent either.

Couldn't agree more - and I don't think anybody's said otherwise.
