 No Charge
I cant get jeremy to charge. He has the GSA engine with a 2cv loom. I want to keep the 45A gsa alternator really as fitting a dyane one etc will involve abit of buggering about with brackets etc
The alternator has a built in regulator thing i think but what and where should i make connections? I have tried to guess and tested a few things but currently the van uses volts rather than making any!
what do the wired on the alternator do? larger one and smaller one? I take it the chunky one is the main power out?
cheers
Tim

 Re: No Charge
I use a Visa alternator (built in regulator) on my 2CV and to make that work you can remove the 2CV voltage regulator and bridge the outermost terminals(from where the regulator was) with a 5w bulb and it will charge. You can also use a diode but I'll have to dig out the info on that.

 Re: No Charge
Another solution.
Large Wire as per 2CV (Charge cable to battery)
Small wire (Field/Excitation).
12 volt from switched ignition thru a 5 watt bulb will give you a charge/no charge lamp.
ps Small wire must be switched else you will discharge the battery

 Re: No Charge
am a little confsed, but Mr. Fire Hazzard said he would help me some time if i am still stuck. Thanks Andre Morrise. Took him out for a cain earlier. cant use indicators or lights and braking wastes volts. apart from that I love him!

 Re: No Charge
current start up routine. GPS on (for speedo), mulitmeter on (for low volts warning), choke out, loud pedal down abit, churn key and FIRE! mmm flat four loveliness!
quick question? is there anyway to drive a sidewinder where the loud pedal isnt at full tilt?

Not that I discovered when I had mine.

All that'll happen is that the lower-set of the two VRs will "decide" the charging voltage - the other will just "assume" that the voltage could be higher, and do nowt.

 Re: No Charge
...except that apparently one of them is set too low? Assuming you've already checked brushes and wiring condition? Kim's (8 month old ) AX alternator wasn't charging, turned out one of the spade connections on the alt (from the reg to the exc coil, I think) had corroded and wasn't making a decent contact... Otherwise Mark's suggestion sounds to me to be a good place to start, will rule out the 2CV reg, at least. Just plug it in overnight and bring it camping at the weekend!
