If it were the very last can in the whole world and you were minted, then what would you do? ;)

Nah, its money talking.

When I was a lad and I came home from pit you could buy a car for £5 and still have change for pie and pees.

the special I have now was £150.

So how many hours do you have into your £150 car now? Or look at the time Old Naiil spent on his car; whether he likes it or not the simple fact is that he's driving an "expensive" 2CV by mere dint of having sunk the hours into it.

It isn't driven by the internet, it is driven by more people looking for a particular opject than are readily available. Yes there are still lots of 2CVs but most are so horrible that most people don't want to drive them. Floors welded to the chassis, large gobs of filler and gaffer tape in lieu of vent flaps, dodgy suspension and tyres that Noah flogged off because they were too wooden to even be of use in building the ark are the norm.

People will pay because they don't want to or can't do the work. I just sold a rust free body shell that needs some fairly minor work for 350 quid. It's never been welded, doesn't need welding to the floors or sills yet I wasn't exactly trampled by the flood of enquiries. At the same time people are discussing "new" 2CV bodies at 2.5K go figure.....

And sometimes the "work" even includes looking for the car! I'm just as bad, if I go to a website to buy something and it says "phone for details" or "order a catalogue" I close the tab and search google for something with an online catalogue and the facility to buy online.

It's pure laziness and I can't say it hasn't cost me in the past, but I want instant results!

So all the lazy-types after a car go to ebay (probably because we still kind of believe that its the place for a bargain, like I think it was back in the day) and fight over the few cars there, which most times have already been priced by a clever seller who knows he has a captive audience.

I sold Seth for something I thought I'd pay for a 2cv, I could have been cheeky and whopped a 1 on the front of the asking price, but I didn't want to rip anyone off.

I'd learn to appreciate cheese on toast very quickly instead. ;)

No matter how much money you have it still grates when you are being relieved of large chunks of it by buying into what are essentially bubble markets. This is why I have a genuine fear that my current 2cv might be my last, because if I had five grand cash in my hand and I won't go out and spend it on another 2cv when there are so many other, and better quality options for the same money.

That's when it begins to echo the Peel P50 Vs Ford Pilot situation as highlighted above, because don't forget, I'm not interested in owning a car for the 'investment' side of things, just the daily driving and enjoying of one.

On another, rather ecstatic note, I've found somewhere I can keep the 2CV off road so I can SORN it rather than flogging it.
