 Re: '88 red spesh
It's also to do with hot engines and sharp/blunt edges and the fact that a bonnet does actually cushion the impact(slightly), whereas the engine most certainly won't

 Re: '88 red spesh
I've been doing car stuff this week and earlier in the week took the rear quarter lights out. Although it was abit crumbly it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Today I had a go at tackling some other bubbling rust at the back of the sills. This side wasn't so bad but was going crusty so I sanded it back. Primed it and gave it a quick blast of topcoat. I don't know how long it will be till it looks just like it did before but it should look alot neater when dry. On the other side I uncovered a nasty bodge which had started to go bad. Not sure what to do about this yet so leaving it. My bonnet hinge was all cracked after having to be hammered into shape as the bonnet kept dropping off. Primed it and will put a topcoat on tomorrow. Finally heres a pic arriving at school prom last week

Keep up the good work James. You just have to keep on top of it if you want it looking clean, it's never long before rust shows up again but keeping at it saves the car.

Honestly - I'm shit at painting and I use wilko primer and a can of red spesh touch up... I usually put two layers of tape - One for the primer, and then peel that one back to another piece so you can lightly blend the new paint with old I don't know if this is what your supposed to do or if I'm making it harder than it is but usually turns out ok providing the prep work was done properly.

 Re: '88 red spesh
what do you mean takign the tape back, like moving it up a few inches
im the worst sprayer ever!
ive recently instead of re spraying a bit, ill get my alpine white and spray it on my finger and dab a bit on where it needs to go, far less obvious, as its not the same colour!

 Re: '88 red spesh
This car is now officially mine... Not done alot on it tbh, although hopefully over the next few months it will get lower and abit less boring... There seems to be more red specials than ever at the moment So here is my first attempt to do something slightly different.... I was mega bored this afternoon and the choice was between getting some paint and doing this and college work so the choice was obvious... The paint finish isn't great but quite good by my standards On the car... Recognise the bonnet Old-Nail? The bonnet itself has a good hinge but abit crusty around the edges but i couldn't be bothered to fill it etc so just left it as it was. The car has been pretty much in daily use over the summer and has been great, the only problem being a grindy gearbox/clutch noise that comes and goes from time to time. It had a complete new clutch in April so it is probably just the adjustment, but I haven't had chance to try and adjust it yet (Well I have, but I prefer doing pointless things like painting the bonnet) Here begineth the de-boringisation... ... tbc

 Re: '88 red spesh
i really like the bonnet, from the las photo, it looks like the blue and white should continue to the back of the car.
