I'm still confused, Old Nail. I've seen plenty go for £2k+, and these were the usual restored, replacement chassis, welded panel, resprayed but still 50k+ mile and 'needing slight work to finish' examples. If it were me, I'd rather stretch out a further £1k for a complete original like this one, that - in theory - only needs keeping in this condition.

I'll just add it to the growing list of things I don't understand...

I think that's the case with most dealers too. They are snapping up the very best examples, as there are plenty of the partly rebuilt type you describe above for the rest of us. When buying a refurbished some of the questions that often arise for enthusiasts are 'Refurbished by whom? Was it done properly?' etc etc.

The 'new' buyers of 2cv's (who are prepared to pay five grand for one) expect a finished car in top condition. I'd stick my neck out and go as far as to say that many of those 'new' buyers aren't necessarily 2cv-ers, but likely to be folks that want a new toy.

I am also involved in a couple classic car clubs for other makes, and the same is true there, the very best examples are being snapped up, while the less than perfect are largely left alone. The recession has been a godsend for those people that have a few quid to spare with which to speculate. :|

Ah, that does make a bit more sense. But in a 'nowt as queer...' way.

Cheers.

Guy around here has two in running order. He won't part with them. I have tried to convince him I would look after it.
