I like the idea, but not so much the execution. I reckon with another shell on it and standard wings etc it has potential.

Did you see the one at last year's Int'l?

Looked damn near standard. Didn't sound it.
Turns out that track & wheelbase of a 2cv is not very far from that of an MGB. And putting a v8 in an MGB is easy.

Yes, and No. I know the car you mean, I understand it's a friend of James Duffells? The trouble is I think nowadays big V engines are a bit overhyped. Having had a series of Ford V6s they are pretty pokey but todays inline fours and bike engines are a much nicer and more efficient way of making something faster. The same applies to most old V8s I've driven. I think a heavy ladder chassis like that and huge sheetmetal bodywork additions look very old hat compared to what I'd rather do if I had the facilities, which is a light spaceframe with a Bike engine, under standard panelwork.

Sadly, although I know of somewhere that has the facilities, they probably wouldn't take kindly to having (more) 2cv parts on the bench while I'm meant to be working...

Edit:

This kind of thing.

But, let's be honest, that's not why we like v8s, is it?

Oooh, yes. When I was in my late teens there were lots of sleepers about. Nothing quite as sexy as a shiny but standard looking Mk11 Cortina, Anglia 105E, Triumph Spitfire, Morris Minor quietly going by, then seeing two exhausts out the back and a lovely V8 wuffle to give the game away. Even better if the driver suddenly lit up the tyres, the car screeched away and the wuffle became a roar. Fantastic! 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

Russel is right about the small fours being more efficient and a better, lighter proposition, but a V8, well, nothing quite like it really. ;)

Jack.

Ok, it's a D*lly, and Portuguese, and the owner can't spell 'excellent', but why doesn't an 'untouched' example like this sell instantly, when it's not much more than a merely 'very clean' example?

Because if it's a dealer that's bought it then half a day of cosmetic trickery will see it priced at five grand. Minus the twenty quid wages for the apprentice of course who cleans it up in an afternoon. That's not a bad return for doing nowt to it.

Ha ha - nearly as cynical as me :)

But why doesn't a 'normal' punter buy it for their own use? Looked after, it won't depreciate.

Because 'normal' people don't often have three grand lying around to furnish them with impulse buys. Dealers have had the scent of rising 2cv prices in their nostrils and are willing to buy up all the best ones on spec. Not cynicism, capitalism, (which is much the same really).
