I wouldn't bother, to be honest, unless the oil that was in there was THOROUGHLY horrible or contaminated with something. Even then, I'd just do it with some cheap engine oil. Quote: does anyone know roughly how much oil the 2cv takes? Some. Until it's full. <shrug> A bit more if you've had the rocker covers off. Quote: and my friend has (and he uses for his truck) jcb oil, really good stuff, JCB oil will be aimed at diesels - so will have very different detergents etc in than "petrol oil". There's been enough arguments about viscosity. I'll admit that I get whatever's "about right" and then use it in all the cars - and, since the Saab is both turbocharged and the highest mileage in the fleet, that tends to set the baseline - but I'm a firm believer in full synthetic. Opie Oils is as good a place as anywhere to get it - I'm currently using a 20l tub of Fuchs XTR, 5w30 IIRC. It worked out a little over £3/litre, delivered. If you're a 2cvgb member, then you should register and get a discount, since the club's a member of the FBHVC.

Re: maintenance (rountine and non routine)
well i used, unipart (i used what the my haynes manual said to use think it was 15 - 40 but might be wrong)
had rocker covers off, i always change filters cos there always full of crap i find..
and as i had bought one anyway, i went for the genuine purflex, but anyway got it spot on on the dip stick first time, then forgot i hadnt cranked it to get the oil moving, and while i was on a roll i cleaned oil cooler, was blocked in a few lines so that is clean now!!

I bought a "JCB" lawn-mower two years ago for half the price my pal [who is a Honda lawn-mower mechanic] could have got me a Honda one for .....[with his "trade discount"] He took one look at it and sniffed "Chinese copy .....now get the bits for it when it goes wrong"The carb wore out last year .... Fortunately .....my pal is a good "bodger" .....although how much longer my mower will last is anyones guess. T.

Jonathan wrote: I keep wondering when this country will wake-up to how shite Chinese crap is, and say "NO MORE CHINESE SHITE, PLEASE!!!!! We're British." The problem isn't the "Chinese" part of it. It's the "shite" part of it. And, until we (as a society) are willing to actually pause, think, evaluate potential purchases properly, and pay a little more for actual quality rather than just a brand name or logo, we'll get what we deserve.
