Quote: Bingo! - Ru, see this post by an original participant of PPP '71 putting up some of his old photos. If you're still after a contact you could join that forum and PM him. Haven't checked the forum for a while so thanks for this.. we will be in touch with him. Presently we have a few itineraries taking shape for a possible raid in 2011. One will be driving to Persepolis (clearly!) however we are working on a back up plan in case Iran becomes more unstable etc Both will involve great sights, great roads and a few piss ups.... So, as somebody has already mentioned a few pages back, the last day of Salbris will coincide with the 40th anniversary of the start of P-P-P. I wonder if the organizers have something up their sleeve to commemorate it?

I wonder if the organizers have something up their sleeve to commemorate it? Myself and my mate are planning on driving the same route (or as near to) as they did in 1971 leaving on the last day of Salbris and returning to Paris four weeks later. This is completely unofficial and we just thought the 40th anniversary thing was a good enough reason to give it a go. However I'm not sure of any official celebration or anything. I was going to start a new thread about my trip once our preparations are more in place.. the Iranian consulate in London are messing with us a little but we do have provisional authorisation to get a visa. Won't have the stamp in the passport until mid-July... cutting it a bit fine. Other paperwork is pretty much sorted. Our car is a 1982 special that has been hand painted yellow (quite badly) as a homage to the Persepolis yellow. Its more like banana to be honest... The car is a cheap hack, just the way I like 'em I'll update this with car pictures and route plans soon

One of the French mags say that two guys are doing a talk on this at Salbris. No good if you can't speak the local lingo though.

 Re: Paris - Persepolis - Paris 1971
We have our visas The Carnet de Passage comes through next week so the boring paperwork is just about in place, finally. The car is still untested but should be taxed tomorrow ready for serious abuse to try and iron out any issues it may have. At the moment it looks like this: We are still planning the finer details of the route but we will be going through the following countries: France Italy Slovenia Croatia Montenegro Kosovo Macedonia Greece Turkey Iran Turkey Bulgaria Serbia Croatia Slovenia Italy France. We do plan to recreate some of those 1971 press shots. eg: and I'm hoping to fit a GPS tracker to the car so that people can follow our progress (or lack of) via google mapping.. more of that later. That's about it for now Cheers Ru
