Post Re: Joolz's Red One
From memory the engine, shafts and box I used came straight out of a GSA I changed the bell housing and input shaft to make it shorter the chassis was ami8 super but deffinately gsa shafts . It was a pickup and I sold it to a chap from Hull area the accelleration was brill but at speed I had no confidence in all the cam belts whizzing round.GSA shafts are 3pairs of 2 on the output shaft non telescopic (plus only did 34mpg)

apologies for the thread hi-jack, Joolz.

Top photo shows FHU 755K - when i photographed it at St. Austell market in the summer of '89! check the GS with cornish 'plate beside it! 8-)

The bottom picture was taken at a Devon corndollies meet c1996? after Kevin converted it to a pick-up...

Not as you remember it I'm afraid. The reason I asked was purely because, when I had it, I used the engine, gearbox and (Ami Super) driveshafts in my Dyane. Sadly the rest of it had gone too far by that point :(

I heard the same, someone who had a 4 cil in his 2cv had to change the AMIsuper driveshafts verry often, then changed to a pair of good 2cv6 ones, no probs no more!?! weird!

greetzzzzzzzzz

Ami Super shafts are a bit weak - they're basically shortened G shafts (I can only think that there's enough movement in the tripod joint to cope with the narrower track) - and not really designed for the greater suspension travel on a 2cv.

I wonder whether the difference between Jeremy & the Dyane's driveshaft life expectancy is down to the van having so much more roll because of the higher centre of gravity, so the suspension uses more of the travel?

A quick google suggests G track is 1380mm, Ami track is 1260mm - that's 60mm each shaft difference (less any minor differences from the hub design). A lot to lose in the tripod...

Well Im sure when i did it it was gsa shafts (was a long time ago) But I think I may have changed the wheel carrier from the gsa to the ami hubs because the splines were different for the shaft but when i connect up my bemmer engine my memory will be refreshed on the subject cos I have GSA shafts ,ami super shafts LNA box and a 5 speed G box to play with.. Its the clutch that worries me now I seen a broken plate though :( Im sure my engine only produces the same torque as good 1300 citroen engine

I'd have expected a clutch faced with too much torque to just slip.

Joolz, Luv the Car 8-)

Will be kickass to get it to the point where it is a daily driver;) eg best gearbox combination etc...

Looking at Cats calculator the GS 1220 11/79- gearbox is only 400rpm higher than the 5speed at 70m/hr and has a longer first gear than the LNa, would that be a better compromise than the work to get a 5 speed?

What did you do for an input shaft? i couldn't find that in your write up.

Cheers
Harley
