 1988 2cv D*lly bits and bobs
just thought id post a few pics of what ive been up to today.... my intentions are restoring the car when it starts to rust - however todays job was rust proventian mostly! with a few cosmetic bits boot lid kindly given to me by someone in my club todays job to rub back the red oxide i did a few weeks ago in prep for painting then cleaned the matt as it rained and my car leaks badly so took matt out to let inside of car dry - thought i might as well clean the matt while it was out and wet now time to prep the boot for its coat of POR 15 - heard mixed reviews (After buying it) but i thought no harm in trying it - will let everyone know how it goes (this is the metal ready stage after de greasing the metal / paint next - start washing the metal ready out the boot, down drain hole - have an idea for the drain hole, ill post when i have put my idea in to practice and it works (i hope) and the POR 15 paint (apparently it goes along way!) hope i didnt bore you but i thought i would make this post anyway

James
I used POR15 to paint the hubs and suspension on my car when I re-chassised it. A couple of bits of advice. The tin lid was a right bugger to lever off and so badly damaged that an airtight seal on the tin was impossible. After a few days the paint in the tin was rock hard so had to be thrown away before it was used up. Also clean your brushes well as to find them rock hard next day is irritating.
Other than that I found POR15 was excellent and gave a good hard glossy finish, better than Smooth Hammerite.

 Re: 1988 2cv D*lly bits and bobs
coat one - small bubbles/white pockets will be gone after coat 2 first coat, after first coat has dried i will masking tape up to give a straight (well ill try my best) finish and a tidy one the irritating white bits i was on about - they shall be gone by the next coat i hope sorry about blurry ness but thought i would i post it anyway - nice and shiny after all this have just over half a tin left over, and tons of the prepration stuff left over - i bought the starter kit, i highly reccomend the starter kit, i managed to get some from a place called frosts, it was about 20£ and it even came with gloves and paint bruses etc i will be ordering a big tin of it i think sometime soon *edit forgot to mention that this coat should dry between 2 and 6 hours so my next eventful psot will be in abuot 4 horus time i hope!!

 Re: 1988 2cv D*lly bits and bobs
Hmmm, some pics, from my mate Chris Stuart in Perth, WA of how POR performed on the body and Citroen chassis of his Charleston, which he rebuilt about 10 years ago... < http://www.flickr.com/photos/46885893@N04/?saved=1 > After subjecting the 'wee bus' to a couple of Raids, he'd taken it apart to sort out any minor problems and wasn't too happy with the POR, to say the least. The main problem seems to be that it forms a relatively hard skin or crust, but when that's perforated, rust will continue to spread underneath the apparently sound paint. ken

 Re: 1988 2cv D*lly bits and bobs
well thats why i had heard mixed reviews i geuss
but its worth a shot,
my boot doesnt leak to much, its mostly just to tart it up and to stop rust a bit
the bottom of my car is wax oiled in cluding the bottom of the boot so we will see what happens!
thanks ken
