How much king pin play is 'acceptable' or considered normal if at all when car jacked up and holding wheel top and bottom ?

Just over half a mile, or 1km in French rating

Depending on the MOT tester anything from zero to the above mentioned kilometer.

I think Viking has posted citroens suggested figures somewhere, they should appear with a quick search.

This isn't conclusive or fact, just my opinion:

I don't think there's a set amount of play before it's deemed dangerous, but if you can feel the car hopping over bumps and there's a definate movement in the wheel, then it wouldn't hurt to change them. It's down to the discretion of the mot tester, if you're worries about that. You can Jack the wheel up and grease out any minor play though, but if the pins worn, it won't last long before you can feel it wobbling again. Only seen one kingpin break, and that went largely undetected as it was in a Belgian arm.

Theres quite alot of play on mine and have been advisories for last three years. Not mot'd by a particularly 2cv friendly garage either, but it passes fine. Probably time to change them sometime in the next year though...

Just grease 'em regularly. ESPECIALLY just before the test.

No it's not due its mot i just had it jacked up fitting a new tie-rod end knife edge pin thingy and noticed a bit of play, i've had one that would make the wheel wobble at speed over bumps and going round bends (wheel not under load would wobble until i braked in the end ) and it isnt doing that but still there is a bit of play and i'm just debating how long to leave it before i should do it .

mine jerks when i turn at about 10 mph like judders

since heavily greasing (as the kingpin in question had no grease in it at all!!) (and was an mot advisory) it seems to be ok, but i have a spare kingpin on my bedside table just in case !
