Post Anyone good at maths?
I was wondering purely out of idle curiosity, does anyone know what a 2cv cost in the UK at the end of production in 89, and taking inflation into consideration what that figure would equate to today?

I'd guess at about £4500 on the road ....although I dunno what that is in todays money .....there were cheaper cars available at the time [Skoda,Fiat126,FSO etc ......so seeing as todays cheapos can be had for £5995 otr [Chevy Matiz 1.0l SE] .....I'll hazard another guess at £6500/7000.

btw, IIRC .....it was June '90 when production ceased ;)

edit ....if its any help IIRC ....the prices in Feb 1988 were
2CV Special @ "just under" £4000
2CV D*lly @ "just over" £4200
2CV Charleston @ "around" £4500
I bought my '88 Spesh then ......and after much wrangling and playing several dealers off against each other,I paid £3500 ....cash,no part ex.

In 1953 it cost £350, that is £7406 in today's money

EDIT

Ergo £4500 in 1988 is £9315 today

So a D*lly sold in 1989 for £4,200 would now sell new for £8,275 :o Seeing as you can buy a Fiat Panda with stuff like ABS and airbag, et al, it does show that cars have never been cheaper.

So really we've been spoiled then. When I see a 2cv that has been restored to 'as new' condition for sale at eight grand that's actually cheap! It would have cost more today from Citroen, and that's without a galvy chassis and two pack paint.

Just as a point of interest (?) a new "Special" cost around £4000 here in 1990 whereas my old German spec spesh was bought brand new in Holland (or possibly Belgium, I can't recall) in 1990 by a guy in the forces for just over £2000.

Either Citroen were making an absolute killing here or losing money hand over fist there........ :?
