Post Re: Cool Videos
I saw this film whilst on holiday in Mauritius in 2005, it was shown the television channel TV5 Afrique. It was made in 1974 about some chicken merchants in a 350 fourgonette, that had no brakes, no lights, tyres with no tread etc. Its an amzing and in parts, very funny, but amazing how the van survives after river crossings and using wooden chocks to stop the thing. If you do a searh on the legendary Youtube, you can find only a few minutes of it.

search: "Cocorico, Monsieur Poulet"

theres also an interview with the film director about the making of it too.

if you thought you had seen everything a 2CV could possibly do, you aint seen nothing yet til you see these boys!

enjoy!

nice one, boys, thanks for posting the links up. Its pure genius how this van survives on its old sparkpulgs and the rest. They get a flat but carry no spare, the old french bike on the roof basket!!!!tied on, is the apprentices and he rides the flat wheel to the ext village where it gets repaired. he balances the wheel on his head, the dome of the centre of the wheel being on the top of his head, whilst riding the bike. Now i told you it was ingenius!

its a must see!

Very good :)... but why didn't they just put the bike etc in the back instead of on the roof? :s

chickens and millet. they put the bonnet on the roof at one point of the film. the best prt is how they stop the van when hailed by a policeman. as they have no front wings and doos, both the driver and the passenger put a foot out and onto the front wheels next to them, and with the sole of their shoes or flipflops, act as friction brakes by pressing down hard on the rolling tyre (slick of course), you need to see it to believe it!

It's on eBay, but it's expensive!

yep, that old 350 got dragged thru high water, and still worked! the best river crossing was when they took all the wheels off it, floated it on 6 or so truck or tractor inner tubes and paddled it across the river after they wrappedthe entire van in a proper tarpaulin. followed b the engine and gearbox in a pirogue being paddled along with all 4 wheels tied behind it! the philosophy was that any water in the engine would therefore float and could be filtered off and put back in the engine!

you couldnt make this stuff up.

and yes, all those non-believers and hypocrites who paf about what a lame car the 2CV is, show them this, tell them of the Atacama desert oil loss bananas trick, and then say that a beetle or anything else has ever done any of that. put that in you pipe, etc.

i love all this adventure and survival by any means stuff, its the ingenuity that rules!

anything about the Baudot & Seguela expedition, Raid Afrique '73 or the Crosiere Jaune, only galvanises how great Citroen are.
