Haha, until there's a hill!

Cheers guys, I wish I could get it slammed but moneys too tight at the moment and it's going to need a lot of modifications before it's proper low! Joe, the lowering thing is ballache, you break stuff all the time and everybody moans at you, and when you drive a standard car across bumps you wonder WTF you were thinking going low.

On the other hand, it's as cool as a penguins pisser!

i agree, it does take away one of the best characteristics of the car! i need some better tyres too. i wish my mechanic told me that firestones were about as good as Aids compared to some of the cheap tyres on the market :(

I *think* I've sourced a roll cage for it, although it needs a bit of work (the main hoop now has to be 50mm tube) as it was damaged last year. I'm pretty confident I can sort it though, and it'd be a good head start over building a cage from scratch.

I love 2cving, so far offers of help with this car have been plentiful and it's coming together quicker than I though. I'm picking up a 2cv4 gearbox in France (I had to pay big money for that though!) and now I can start work on it, in fact, I'm off to work now to get an hour of chassis repair time in before the boss gets in..,

Well, repairing chassis is a bit of a ballache, but I've made a start, what's hard to comprehend is how so much rust can hide in what looks otherwise quite sound. As it's a proper Cit chassis, the only way to repair it is to cut the skin open and repair the reinforcment inside. I've done one corner so far, and hope to have it done by friday so i can shotblast and prime it after work.

The roll cage I mentioned I was offered turns out to still have a (somewhat bent) shell attatched, it's far from perfect but rot free, and probably considerable easier to repair than a rotten shell. The cage will need quite a bit of work to make upto the regulations, but it's again, much easier than starting from scratch.

This is the shell, I must admit i robbed this picture, just trying to sort out the logistics of collecting it.

I hope you're planning to have it all Dolly-ed up before abusing it on the track? ;)

D'you know what? I'm not planning that.

Spent a couple of hours doing the chassis again today, it's a bit of a nightmare. I've added quite a lot of strength to it and replaced all the rust with new metal. So far I'm only about a quarter of the way through repairing it, I was shocked at how long it's taken. I'd hoped to have it shotblasted by tomorrow but it's looking more like next Friday now. The more rot I fond the more I wonder whether it's really worth it, I want to build the car on the cheap as I don't intend to use it more than a couple of times, but on the other hand I don't want it to look like a heap of shit, and even moreso I don't want to go to the expense of building it only for the chassis to break after a couple of laps/rollovers.

Enthusiasm is down today, but I'm going in early for another hour of work on it tomorrow, hopefully I can get it most of the way to paint.

Post Re: D*lly.
Just been emailed some better pictures of the shell, the cage is virtually useless, although some parts could be used again, but the shell is really good, I'd say it was completely rust free judging by the pictures, with a couple of dents to push out. It might require a bit of welding on the front corner, I'm not so sure I can pull that out and leave it, but the back end could be portapowered out no trouble. Just need to sort out collection now.

Where is your D*lly shell rusty? It's almost certainly in better condition than the car I'm driving around in ...
