 Re: 2cv Gaiters
This looks like a hard job... having never done one the Haynes isnt very convincing... it refers to balls and needles (28 needles to be exact)? anyone got any better info or pictures on how and if i should undertake this?

 Re: 2cv Gaiters
Piece of piss Tim, take the driveshaft off and knock the 2cv joint off. Whip the outer boot off an then the inner boot-DO NOT dismantle the inner joint, they're shit!
I would recommend replacing the 2cv joint circlip before you refit it though as the joints *can* have a habit of popping back off otherwise!

With the outer (Ami shaft remember) 2cv it just comes off if I pull it/knock it? then change the other end without mucking about with the needles and balls? The circlip is what broke mid way to Czech meeting... risked it about 2000miles after that before it got too dangerous and awkward to drive! Any ideas where to get a snap-ring from?

I think I may still have some Tim, I'll have to check.
Did you receive the spindle I sent?

 Re: 2cv Gaiters
Thanks Jon! Not got anything yet? Haynes makes me laugh, it explains in great detail about splitting exactly 200g (7oz) of grease in half to lube interior drive housing and gaiter... but not about doing the actual work!

It's worth clarifying that this is an Ami Super shaft - Most Amis are the same as 2cv, but the Super's very different, basically a shorter GS shaft. If the inner gaiter's fine, leave that WELL alone. It's a tripod joint, with big balls rotating on lots of little needles. Like this... Just unbolt the flange from the brake, and get the hub nut off. Then take the shaft to the bench, and knock the outer 2cv off the shaft. Don't even think of touching the inner gaiter & joint unless you really have to. It is _full_ of pingfuckits - nearly 100 of 'em per driveshaft. Quote: Any ideas where to get a snap-ring from? Rob at Chevronics is the only man you need to know.

Tim2cv wrote:  its the inner with the nic in it... bugger... Ah, gotcha. Well, you should be OK doing the inner just so long as you're very careful not to remove the balls from the flange - without the gaiter on, there's nothing holding the two halves together. 'course, if t'were me, I'd be starting to measure up for a set of flange adapters to allow you to use 2cv shafts... If only you knew somebody who worked somewhere they might be able to get 'em machined, eh, Timmy? I'll have a set, too. Ta.
