Post Re: Alternative Engines
Interesting topic, alternative engines for 2cv, it was always Citreon GS type because they 'fitted' the gearbox and worked reasonably well - particularly if used with Ami Super chassis & running gear, they do however tend to be front heavy and loose out in handling respects.

The idea of Rotax is quite interesting because, hopefully, lightness & reliability, they are quite low revving to mate with prop. speeds, someone must have fitted one......

I believe that 'Z Cars' in Yorkshire have a customer 2cv project on the go, Hayabusa motor perhaps?

The quest for alternative, I believe, should be for lightweight and high revving, so bike engine ought to be best but they tend to lack low range torque for obvious reasons. Something along these lines would get my vote:http://www.smartuki.com/

Interesting that the 'Argies' now use Fiat Tipo 1.4 petrol engine with Fiat 147 gearbox in their 3cv racing series, pics look almost like an April fools thing, personally I think it's a vile anathema, as do plenty of the drivers - plenty of 2cv motored cars were for sale as the new regs came in!

That's the one. Our tankers run out of Mastertaste near Dursley so the bloke knew the van. Cambridge was where we had that New Year camp you and Brian Dark organised all those years ago ... 95/96? Happy days. :)

I don´t know. Human stupidity?
However, it´s something common to other championships. Since a few years in the TC2000 (something like BTCC) all the differents makes share the same motor (Ford's Duratec 2.0 but named Mazda because Mazda don´t sell cars in our country) and the same suspensions. It´s weird to see a Renault Megane, an Honda Civic or, worst, a Chevrolet (Vauxhall) Astra racing with a Ford engine. It´s a fraud for me.

Besides, it could choice the PSA's 1.4 for the 3CV. Or, simply, race with a Fiat.

Believe me. Is not April Fool's day in Argentina (well, hearing our politics it seems all year long is a Fool's Day).
The reason given to justify using the same engine is lower costs.
