 headlights fault!?
Hi all just need some ideas to solve my problem... No main beam! I've got full beam and the side lights work and are on in every position on the stalk as are the dash lights. Fuses and bulbs ok. Testing with a power probe, all feeds to fuses live but I have no power to the main beam wiring. At the headlight bar connections i've taken the connector from the full beam feed and connected it to the main beam wire to the headlamp that works and got me home. i'm thinking it's a relay (if there is one?) or the headlight stalk. all thoughts welcome H

Harry, where's dipped beam in this scenario? On a standard 2CV loom, there aren't any fuses in the headlight circuits, so you can rule out that possibility. Next, does your car have the dread dim-dip nonsense and if so, has it been disabled? Or, starting at the light switch, check that the appropriate terminal goes 'live' when the switch is operated. < http://www.flickr.com/photos/30132857@N06/3624638437/ > If that's all OK, it's time to check at the connections on the light bar. ken

ok ken, EDIT - main beam = dipped. full beam = main (i think, sorry)
light switch -
Yellow wire/ black sleeve is 'power in' from battery. - live
Grey wire/ blue sleeve, horn connection. - live when pressed
Green wire/ lilac sleeve, side & tail lights. - live on 'V' up and down and 'R' down
Grey wire/ yellow sleeve, main beam. - live 'R' up
Green wire/ green sleeve & grey wire/ green sleeve, dipped beam and feed to rear fog light through separate switch. - live 'V' and 'R' down

Hi H, you shouldn't have both filaments lit at the same time, it's _either_ 'dipped' or 'main' beam. Only question mark which I can see there is that the 'side & tail lights' terminal should also be live when 'R' is in the 'up' position, otherwise you've got no power to the side & tail lights when main beam is 'on' (R 'up'). If, after double checking, that turns out to be OK, my guess is that the problem could be with the bullet connectors on the headlight bar, as they do seem to need attention now and again. Failing that, it could be one of the crimped connections in the loom. Have you checked for voltage at the yellow sleeved connectors on the light bar with the switch in the 'R up' position? ken

ken i've done an edit on the above post i must have confused you with the 'and'  the filaments are not lit at the same time. I be out there shortly and have another look (after a couple more coffees i think)

Looking at your edited post, you seem to have live feed at the appropriate terminals and the appropriate time. I would therefore be checking all the connections [one at a time] on the light bar. Clean them all and replace any female connectors that don't have any grip. [a good life skill]
I know ken asked earlier but did the car have the dreadful dim headlamp contraption? [normally located on the top of the lateral chassis member at the front near the engine mount on the right as you look at it]
