Organisers need to take notes from Kim & Luke's fantastic instructions from the Halloween camp which were great.

 Thankyou very much! It's worth bearing in mind though, that apart from 4 roundabouts on the way to Coventry, most of that A4 sheet covered a distance of about 4 miles, and some people (locals!) still managed to get lost, breaking several local traffic laws in the process ;) Although like Richard said, left, right and straight ahead arrows are a bit easier :)

I understand that this could become a freeloaders charter, but there are usually a few of them anyway and we can always publish a gallery of shame for those few cars which often park outside Hove Park.

I'm obviously missing something here - what are participants paying for?

Admittedly, the last time I did a London to Brighton run was in the late 80's but I'm sure we all just pitched up near Battersea Power Station and drove to Preston park in Brighton where we all just parked up and chilled.

I think even back in the '80's you had to put a few quid in at the start of the run. The charge is just to cover the cost of various venues (I think the club has to pay to use Hove park), stickers, printing route maps etc the usual stuff.
Which is partly why the start point had to move from the original Battersea park location due to cost, not to mention the increasing logistical nightmare of getting a convoy of (back then) 500-plus A-series out of Central London.

Well the Ace Cafe don't want paying - first ever start that didn't, but they are obviously hoping to sell a few cooked breakfasts. The last few starts at Apps Court Farm they have wanted £2 per car entry. That leaves £3 from advance bookings so pay for stickers, printing a little pamphlet and paying Hove council - several hundred pounds I think.
The previous starts also wanted several hundred pounds to host us. This is not a 2CVGB event, they washed their hands of it several years ago which is why we usually get a very poor turn out from their committee. The South Downs Escartgots also need to hire portaloos - do you know how much they cost!

Honestly it's only a fiver. I have had more than one person at the start refusing to pay and loitering in the road outside to follow someone- hardly in the spirit of the event.

It's your committee too  (Unless you're not a club member)

I seem to remember the last few L-B's have had plenty of committee member attendance in one form or another - myself being one of them.

Not that this is of any relevance.

I agree though - a fiver isn't much for a day out, and for those who refuse to pay and instead park outside and walk over, well that is just pretty shameful.

Typo alert - meant the committee. And very few turn up at the London end.
And I've been a member for 17years.

Totally agree, Will; if you can't/won't pay £5 entry, then you've got no right whatsoever to attend. OK 'civilians' come to admire the cars (or shake their heads in disbelief... :x ), but parking on the highway and sneaking in is just taking the piss, IMHO.

IIRC, there were about half the 2CVGB committee in attendence last year, so supported or not it is an important event.

We enjoy it even if it does mean a long old day in the saddle for us Fenlanders! :P

I'm guessing there's still camping at the plough? I'm well drunk so although I tried to read through it all but I couldn't see anything about it.
