That´s good to know mate. I really like your Ami, so hoping to see it running next summer.

I'm not sure, but we must think along similar lines because I was wondering what I could use them for!

Maybe not a cheap option but it may be possible get them welded. After they are cleaned up machine the cancer away and substitute missing meat with a copper gasket to keep same compression ratio

I didn't realise they could be repaired like that, although I have a budget of almost nothing (I say 'almost' because I know there's some change in my trouser pocket I could put towards it) so I couldn't afford to have anything like that done, plus i have a load of engines for spares I don't really need to.

Well, I would most likely only do that if it was the very last head on earth.

I have a head with a stripped plug thread, I know I could have it helicoiled but how good is that? Is it as strong as the original ally thread?

I wounldn't use helicoil but an insert or get the hole welded and cut a new ''original'' thread.

Post Re: 1967 Ami6 Break
So this evening i have stripped another pair of heads down to be cleaned up. Apart from a slightly out of shape pushrod tube these look fine. I'm taking the barrels in to work tomorrow to be shortened by .50mm each, and I'm going to have a stab at lightening the rockers. This will probably make absolutely no difference and/or I'll end up with a selection of scrap rockers to go with my selection of scrap heads and barrels, but it keeps me off the streets eh?

Next question, can anybody give me a list of what I'd need to throw that old tin-top box away and replace it with an LHM disc box? or, can I convert a disc box drums and use that instead? I want to use a light flywheel and isn't it the case that the drum boxes are the type which have to be used with the heavy flywheel?

You can fit drums to a disc box-you need to fit the drive flanges from a drum box to it but I *think* that's it IIRC. :geek:

(Oh, and the drums, wheel cyls etc would also be good I guess!)
