We had a meeting yesterday lunchtime with the manager to sort our the arrangements. They are open from 7am for breakfasts and will marshall the parking area themselves. They have advised you to arrive early to guarantee parking inside and time to have breakfast, but lots of space is available on the road as well.

We will have signs up and a table inside the cafe to pay and collect your stickers and maps.

Given that it's a much longer run this year, and that some participants will have very poor knowledge of London, are there any plans to publicise the route in advance so that folks can become familiar with it? I remember that in my first year from Apps Court I found it impossible to read the routing sheet and to drive safely at the same time and I presume that this year's route will be even more complex without the benefit of being able to follow seasoned participants.

I understand that this could become a freeloaders charter, but there are usually a few of them anyway and we can always publish a gallery of shame for those few cars which often park outside Hove Park. I'd also argue that 2cvgb members seen parking A-series tin outside should be sent a bill for the cost of entry, but the word seems to be getting around as last year I was pleased to see that nobody took the kidney juice.

I also know a few potential participants who are scared shitless at the thought of negotiating London traffic, and others who don't even realise that the start is outside the Congestion Charge Zone nor that the zone does not operate at weekends. I'd suggest a bit of educational publicity on the latter point and, for those who cannot bear the thought of a start deep within a part of London they may never have seen, a pre-publicised route would allow them to organise their own convenient alternative start.

Has anyone seen there is a camp the night before at edmonton/picketts lock?

Is anyone thinking of doing it?

Being closer to Brighton than London I'm very much in favour of camping 'up there' the night before rather than driving all the way up from Beeding just to drive all the way down again.

Count me as up for camping in London, be worth it if there were a few of us



Yep George and I were totally confused, in the end we stuck the TomTom on!

Organisers need to take notes from Kim & Luke's fantastic instructions from the Halloween camp which were great.

I will tell Maurice about the route plan. I do think left, right or straight on arrows would be clearer to read at each junction.

Basically it will be left out of the cafe back round the mini-roundabout a few yards up the road (so you don't turn right across traffic) and a left, then right at the lights to get on to the n. circular southbound. Straight over hanger lane gyratory towards ealing. Down to chiswick roundabout, straight across to pass syon house, past kew, and keep on going south till you get to the A24 (I think, - this is all from memory at the moment).

Oh and there are plans to ensure everyone has to pay (it's only enough to cover costs as well).

If the route is completely set in stone, then it's ideally placed to allow folks to start from Richmond Park if they want; maybe even make it an unofficial route detour: a nice convoy at 20mph around the park with deer for company. As I understand it, for legal reasons, we can't as a club organise or call it a convoy, but if a few dozen friends who happen to own similar cars want to meet and drive around the park in a law-abiding manner there's no harm done. Also a great photo opportunity. One strict rule applies to all Royal Parks is that vehicles with adverts are not allowed in without prior permission; in practice this means no sign-written vehicles. It's not always enforced and there's never anyone at the gates, but Royal Parks Constabulary will pounce if in the mood. If there's a lot of us passing through though, they'll just want us to obey the limits and clear out asap.

Also gives a wee point (best at Pembroke Lodge) to allow through passage of the cups of tea and coffee consumed twenty to thirty minutes earlier

I'm not sure what the plans are yet possibly staying somewhere close to Ace the night before or get up early and drive there for the start to save money

(i'd possibly be prepared to spend a smelly night at the campsite there is a sewage works next to it and i think on occasion it smells but there is ice skating and a cinema and restaurants etc there too and an ikea down the road next to a 24hour tesco )

Agreed about freeloaders. It's less than a tenner ffs! If you can't afford that you can't afford a car.

These are the same people who will moan when nobody bothers to organise anything.

I wasn't going to go this year but I could be tempted to with the new starting point.

Have done a number of Morris Minor L2Bs, but never a 2cv one, think it's a much cooler run, than the MM L2B....So may make this year, The Year.
