 Re: D*lly Lovers Thread
To be fair i was 3 in 1975 and only 7 or 8 when they sold it and got their second dyane ,a 1979 one in cream,or whatever the correct shade is I thought it was a club for some reason ,maybe ive seen a later green one and subconsciously made the link...more importantly, who cares Definately had a parcel shelf i remember it .. not many photos of it unfortunately ,think theres one of me by it i will have to scan it. I even remember some of the reg;HRO ...N

the charlestons don't get slated for being 2 colours, the cocorico.. not that we had it? the Spot? everyone loves the Spots? but that was just a special edition based on the 2cv4! the bamboo was a special ed which was exactly the same as a D*lly...
The D*lly was just a variation of the Special with a few added extras like an interior light, black surround grille, chrome sill strips and a parcel shelf type cover between the back seats and bootlid! They are just another 2cv at the end of the day just with different coloured wings and bootlid, and with some vinyl on the doors!... It's the combination of a stupid name and a noddy paint job which completely tarnished every proper 2cv that rolled out the factory before it. Last week somebody asked if my Ami was a D*lly estate. That's why I personally don't like them, but don't take it so seriously people, it's only meant as tongue in cheek fun...

 Re: D*lly Lovers Thread
The name D*lly was originally put forward as the name for the maroon and black car that came to be known as Charleston. It is an embarrassing and daft name for a car, but then, I think, so is SPOT (even though that is an acronym).

Gay_Joe wrote: in all fairness, i dont see whats wrong with the D*lly's? they are just another 2cv.... Exactly, the more on the road the better, it doesn't matter what colour they are on the outside. I think the 2cv had always been looked at with a smile, and by calling it a D*lly Citroen were trying to get in on the 'joke' rather than being the butt of it... who knows. ben wrote: Who the hell chose that name though and why ? I mean they didnt end other proletariat (?) vehicles 40 year production runs with such indignity did they, imagine the austin mini teddy or the vw beetle fairy. Or the renault 4 Barbie To be fair, isn't VWs 'New Beetle' a bit of a misnomer as the 'old' Beetle was never marketed as such. But I completely agree with the sentiment, Citroen could have come up with something a little more fitting for the requiem of such an incredible vehicle.

They could of had a 2cv Ken, to go with the Renault 4 Barbie Well, Russell's old Dyane was named Ken, so why not? What's happened to Ken, Russ? Was a cracking good laff at the French Nat. in 07.

 Re: D*lly Lovers Thread
You know, I'd always wondered why it had a stripe and not a spot... There were apparantly a lot of 2cv colour schemes that didn't make it past the drawing board, theres been a feature on it in our local club mag. They've had pics of the 2cv 'Space Cab,' '2cv Saloon' (square headlights, saloon doors painted on boot lid, one production model apparantly), and others too. Anyone know more?
