 Not 2CV related but..
Hi gang
Not having much experience with water cooled motors, just wanted to bounce something off the mechanically minded types on-line.
Just about to pick up my cylinder head for the Wartburg and I've been told that the engineering shop had to take 12mm off the head.
Now either someone has read that over the phone to me wrong and they meant 12 thou or my old head had a higher warp factor than the Starship Enterprise!
Is this likely to have an effect on the running do you think? As I'm guessing that the compression ratio will be effected.

If they didn't cock it up, then if it wasn't scrap before, it certainly is now... To give you a comparison, the maximum permissible machining on the head of the Saab's 19thou, 0.4mm. It should run on diesel now... Who did it? John Dutch in Chesham?

No this was done by a Wartburg specialist.
I'm guessing that being a commie 2 stroke, the compression ratio was a bit low anyway, so maybe <gulp> there's bags of room for adjustment.

Matt, instead of 'rrringg, ding, ding', is it going to be 'zzingg, ping, ping'? Anyway, let's hope it's 0.12mm or 12 thou and you've just gained some extra go... ken

Assuming the starter will turn it over, that'll either absolutely fly, or not work.

BX soon then Yes well I now how the head in my hands and I can see the remains of the poc marking damage to the combustion camber. Is it worth my while giving this a gentle rub to clean it or should I not bother and just fit the damn thing? Might just polish up the outside a bit to make it shiny, cos I'm sad lol.

 Re: Not 2CV related but..
Pock marking withing the combustion chamber? are they only small? If its just remnants of worse stuff then ignore it and fit. Thats what i would do it it were a bike 2 stroke. The mating surfaces has been skimmed, no need to take more out the combustion chamber and negate any of the extra compression you may have gained
