I'm no expert, we've all established that, but it should be quicker than 65 flat out. Mines a bit of a dog and it's quicker than that!

Ooops,
full choke would mean that the intake is 'strangled', which sort of cancels out the wide open throttle.

Some sootiness on the lower end of the plug body could simply be that the engine had been ticking over for a while, or trundling along in heavy traffic.
The only way to get a reliable plug reading is to carry out a 'plug chop', which involves switching the engine off when it's at speed/under load and coasting to a stop...

I don't reckon you should be so hard on yourself mate!! thing is you know what flat out is!! - i'm too much of a pussy to absolutely floor it for long periods, with what sounds like screaming to me - i could get more than 60 probably - i was being conservative..

however - Ken's post below has cheered me up a bit.....

i don't know why i did full choke - choke! Will - choke air - choke on something - air stops going into lungs - air stops going into engine!!!

will try again later - and report back with some new readings....

Thank God I've got this forum and it's posters!!!

Seriously, they like it. They thrive on it.

That, as everyone has said sir, is not a great, they thrive on being revved out as it were.

One of these days if you ever spot a multi coloured acad at an event, thats probably me, give us a shout, then we can go for a flat out drive

Its mechanical sympathy though, if you have a good idea how and why it all works you will know how hard they can be pushed. Learn the basics, everything else will follow (hopefully, it seems some youngsters ive met of late dont actually have any mechanical clue, at all.)

thrashed cars go faster, simple as that :)

That van has a long history of the throttle pedal being firmly welded to the floor. I even managed to overtake a 911 on the left going round a roundabout once - he stayed behind me down the dual carriageway afterwards, too...

No no and more no. Look after your engines. They last even longer if you take care.
