Post Re: Help your Reniflard
diferent valves will work better at diferent frequencies due to the mechanism and what works best at tickover may not cope at 5500rpm

the valve i had was a non return valve from the diesel priming pump as i said it worked beatifully at tick over but at full revs the valve clearly never had time to close properly and the system went positive.

the original breather has 2 distinct valves and suspect there is quite a clever design going on in there.

Ive seen one of the aftermarket valves not work which may have just been a rough bit on the machined valve seat stopping a seal i didnt get a chance to take it apart to have a look

i have made valves for the original breather and am fine tuning the design using material that is both flexible, oil and heat resistant.

Hy! The second plastc valve is very quick to open and close itself. So the system is never positive.
I can't say if the plastic valve is very durability but the membrane is made in silicon so maybe...

I will do a test (and of course a video) at different rpm to see what happened!

Bye Titta

Matt,
afaik, the 'business end' of the alloy ones is a reed valve, probably similar to those used in 2 stroke engines.
Since those engines tend to rev higher than 2CV engines, I'd doubt whether there would be any problems at the upper end of a 2CV's usable rev range.

On one car which I checked, the owner was convinced that his add-on breather wasn't working.
It didn't take too much investigation to notice that the pipe between it and the air filter box was kinked, so preventing the unit from doing its job.
Always worth checking, as there seem to be more than a few cars running around with that connecting pipe well past its sell-by date... ;)

Very interesting all this breather stuff, so i have a further question, especially as Ken and Sean have mentioned the additional valves going positive at high RPM. The alloy ones as seen above, supplied through preffered supplier of bits, do they go positive at high RPM also? Mainly i ask cos i have one on the van and if its not really working id better buy a new breather.

Tittap,
looking forward to seeing the results of your test... :)

Thanks,

Tittap,

sounds good :) silicone should resist oil and petrol

Have you got a makers name for the black valve?

Sean
PS ken, suspected a ball type valve was struggling.

The brass valve go positive due to moving masses. The plastic valve have less moving masses so this is the test at any rpm: http://www.vimeo.com/groups/27216/videos/8889831
