I can only imagine there was a cost implication, or that Citroen desperately wanted the 4 door set up in order to produce the Ami over that, I know which I'd prefer.

Anyway, here's my cutsie image for today. 8-)

Ha-ha! That kid scrumping the apples reminds me of my 1st foray to France in a 2CV! 1982, with 2 mates. Wreckless, idiot 18 years olds. V little money. In fact, we only had enough for petrol and cheap wine.

So we devoted most of the holiday to pottering around looking for free food. Nabbed low-hanging apples from orchards in exactly the way described in the picture. Also took to raiding fields full of maize (bullet-hard stuff, must have been destined for livestock rather than penniless teenagers). Lobbed the cobs in through the roof... adrenalin rush resulting in us taking way more than we could eat. We ended up re-distributing France's maize wealth by giving it to fellow campsite residents, just like latter-day Robin Hoods. For dessert, we stole a few thousand grapes, which turned out to be as sour as hell: must have been destined for the bottle.

In the end, we became so immaciated that we took to going round fast food establishments hoovering up the grub that people had left! Carion tourists!

If anyone reading this was the owner of either the orchards, maize fields or vineyards that we raided, please accept my apologies.

I know it's going a bit off-topic, but if anyone's interested in finding more about Allemano, or Bertone (had a hand in the 2cv's design) or other coachbuilding companies that went from mainstream to niche/diversification/bancruptcy with the advent of mass production, take a look here: http://www.coachbuild.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1

One of my favourites, that trailer houses what at the time was my other favourite toy, an SZD-30 pirat.

The wheels are at the midpoint of the trailer.

Think you'll find it was Flaminio Bertoni (Head of Citroen's "Styling Department"), not Bertone. In fact, Boulanger pretty much kept him out of the TPV Project, not wanting the 2cv to be "styled". 8-)
