I've heard of this, would love to try it

Isn't there a video somewhere of BXs or CXs doing this in a Citroën factory?

You've driven a lomax then? :D

Not seen it done on an a series, but I have seen gs and ds driven with a wheel removed, and I've driven 2cvs with flat tyres and not noticed.

Ok so, an update:

Rang Footman James who said to definitely peruse a claim, but in the first instance, to do it via the council.

Rang the county council and they were very helpful. I explained the the damage, location and incident and they're sending me all the forms to make a claim.

Apparantly I'll have to send in copies of the MOT, car insurance, etc...

Helpful as they were I'm sure it won't be easy to get anything out of them.

Some pics of the pothole.... or should I say, tectonic crater :?

One good thing is that it clearly hasn't been caused by frost, the who'll road in that area looks rather unstable.

The hole is about 4ft long, 18" wide and in places 5" deep. It's in a 40mph zone and I was doing about 35 because it was dark and raining, but just think what it could have done to a motorcyclist or somebody on a bicycle.

Pics below, the little white stick is a 30cm (12") ruler for scale.

Sam,
pity you didn't take a house brick along to drop it into the chasm and give an immediate idea of the scale... :)

Last year, one of my customers in Leeds had a similar incident and eventually received compensation for replacing both the wheel and the tyre.

Have you checked your tyre, since that sort of impact will most probably have damaged it beyond use?

ken.

I haven't had a good look over it yet no, it's in the garage on the damaged wheel. Thanks for that Ken, I'll be sure to have a good look over it.

I'm glad to hear that somebody had success in making a claim, that's encouraging!

Taken from another forum .... I dunno how true it is ....

How do I know? well for the last 2 years I've been on the board of the Neighbourhood management, and this as been talked about more than once.

Our racer had an arm let go last year, driver pitted at a scheduled time to say "the handlings gone off is there bodywork on the tyre or oil leak?"

there was only 2" of arm left at the top and the wing was the only thing stopping the wheel and hub going off to the infield

as for the claim send in a quote from citroen dealer for a mich 125 and new wheel

then when they recieve it and appoint someone to the case phone that person and offer to try to minimise the claim by using youre status as a clasic car club member and can probably get the claim down a bit especially as you need the car and want it sorted soon to whatever the cost at ECAS is...

worked for me got 2 rims and tyres paid for 4 years ago

Post Re: A wheely irritating incident
Excellent, so I finally received my claim forms from the council. (posted on the 6th - arrived friday  ) which I'm currently filling in.

In town today, I popped into Kwikfit in Chichester, who I've always found really helpful. Handily, one chap there used to work in a Citoren garage, and the manager was taught by my dad when he was at high school

They kindly popped the car up on their ramps so I could get a good look underneath and see if anything else had been damaged by the pot hole.

Rear left shock absorber has been buggered and is quite flaccid so there's oil ejecting from the seem. Front ones seem ok, but the rear right has a lot of play in it.

Also, the impact seems to have severely loosened the track rod end so it might be a case of just servicing it, or it might need replacing. Other than that everything else seems ok.

On a side note, oh to own one of those ramps, how much easier would it make every little job.

So, well chuffed with Kwikfit's customer service :D they also greased my kingpins and drive shafts :)

On the other hand, the Post office - it took them 9 days to deliver a letter?? So they can mortgage my house, give me a loan, a credit card and travel insurance, but actually deliver my post? no.

I take pictures for clients to prove claims for building defects (I'm a chartered building surveyor and building engineer) so any problems in and around Yorkshire (West & South mainly) from about the end of next week then give me a shout and I'll take a vernier and a straight edge and give you depth size of potholes and with picture evidence. For personal use obviously at this point (not getting my new practice up and running until this summer).
