 Crank shaft rebuilt
I am getting more and more frustrated not being able to supply many parts our customers are asking for. The latest is crank shaft for 425 motors. I know that some of the people involved in 2cv racing (Germany and Belgium) can do this job but are mighty difficult to deal with, not cheap either. I’m thinking, what is involved setting up tools to properly rebuilt crank shafts. Can someone please put me in touch with professional engine builders capable of such job? Any idea what tools are needed and possible cost of getting these tools.

Thanks in advance Viking Mr V, Not much help but some of the specialists in motorcycle industry may be of some help. Arent harley cranks built up, as well as some of the 2strokers? I believe some marine engineers may have the necessary presses too. The problem as i see it is the disassembly as the pins must get terribly dammaged as they are pressed/ripped apart. Could that be why some recon engines seemed to come with 5 piece cranks? the old crank pin cut off the web which is then bored to take a newly manufactured crank pin. they were terrible alignment issues and they or at least one that i salvaged had been knocked out of register. a big hydralic press and a bucket of liquid nitrogen for starters Sean

Yes maybe OK for 602 motors but I'm after 425 cranks

Viking, I'd reckon you'll have more luck with a company which specialises in motorcycle crankshafts, since the 'built up' crankshafts used in Citroen's A series vehicles are more closely related to those than to the forged or cast crankshafts used in 'normal' cars... I did some asking around in the Netherlands and from memory not very positive feed back. I left it at that but maybe it time to ask again. Maybe the dutch here could ask some questions or knows about them?

My dad reckons he could do it, but would obviously need to see one and get the details, his first question is what is the bearing? he is talking to me about shell bearings or roller bearings?? He is wondering about the size and whether he'd have the presses but he says he could make one up if needs be... basically he is happy about making the component parts but his main question is what is the bearing? In fact he's talking a whole load of jargon now and I'm confused <holds phone away from ear.>
