be honest, you'd rather go to the effort of taking the whole front panel off a stock 8 than a few skinned knuckles changing points through the grille aperture?
I'll say this though, I don't think I'd have been so quick to fill over that join either, but it's not too tricky to get the whole front off as one, IIRC it's just two 12mm (maybe 11mm on an 8) bolts to slacken behind the doors and the wings are off?

I changed the plastic part of the fan on the Super through the grille once. Mind you, even if you're assuming you'll never need to pull the engine out, the mounts themselves aren't immortal...

A super is a slightly different animal though, and I still don't see what's stopping the whole front coming off in one (except the filler will probably drop out  )
