so while we're on the subject - I know it's been brought up before and different people call it different things, but the replies on this thread seem to confirm that:

We hold a NATIONAL once a year in the UK for all the regional clubs to get together and there's an INTERnational (or world meeting) every 2 years for the various national clubs to get together, yes?

There is a UK national meeting which should always be refered to as the 'INTERnational' which is what it's been called since day one until it was decided a couple of years back to wrongly refer to it as a National.

The world meeting, whilst officially known as 'The international meeting of 2cv friends' is always refered to as 'A world meeting'

Only in the UK is the national meeting refered to as an International, for example the French, dutch and germans all have national meetings too, and none of them are called 'internationals'. logically, on paper, yes, the UK yearly meeting is a 'national' but if we did everything logically and predictably, it'd be very boring. There was no confusion until 2cvgb decided to muck about changing names for the fun of it.

Clear as mud, eh?

You are almost right Russell so for the record and as the bloke who instigated the change:

2CVGB's annual get together was always called an International. I was told that the name was chosen in the dim distant past to encourage visitors from abroad.

It always struck me as an odd name. When I was club Chairman [2001-2005] and preparing the agenda for one of the AGM's, it was obvious that it was going to be a particularly dull meeting as there was no elections contested and no items had been sent in to discuss, soooo in an attempt to liven up some debate, I added the proposal for the name change to the agenda.

I expected this to created heated debate and be a bit controversy but if my memory serves me well [the minutes will confirm] there was next to no discussion and very few, if any, of the 100 or so people who attended voted against the proposal. So from then on its been called the 2CVGB National.

Not sure that the name change made any difference, still excellent meetings which does seem to attract visitors from abroad when its in the south of England. :D

I guess it now falls in line with other European countries. You have the French National and I think there's a German National, too.

A slightly different situation, in that France don't have a single national club. They have an association of umpty-seven local clubs, who organise one annual event, hosted by different clubs around the country. In that respect, it's a bit more like a WM than the (inter)National.
