ken wrote: Russell, guess it's their version of a plenum chamber... Regarding that 'ram air' business, the probable gain would be in the order of 0.5% at 75mph. On aircraft it works much better, with about 15% gain at 350mph. To have any chance of working, the intake should be a diffuser, with the intake widening as it approaches the carburettor. ken Ken, you must know far, far more about this than me, so how, and why would they do this? I've not seen it on any other 2cv before, yet every single one of these South American cars has a single choke carb sticking at least 8" out of the bonnet, mounted onto one of those chambers (plenum?) Obviously the cars pull high revs for long periods of time, and seem to absolutely fly...

Russell, won't have enough time this evening to read through all of it, ( Paradox yesterday, Spooks tonite ;o) but stumbled on this lot whilst looking for some guff on plenum chambers... < http://autospeed.com/cms/title_Breathin ... ticle.html > < http://autospeed.com/cms/A_110281/artic ... larArticle > If you've looked under the bonnet of any of the Tete Rouge cars, I guess you will have noticed the airbox (aka aluminium cooking pot) arrangement, which seems to work rather well. ken

 Re: Cool 2cv pictures 3.
I've seen plenum chambers used before to evenly distribute air between the inlet tracts, usually on engines with multipoint injection, but I've never seen anything quite that big, fitted after the carburettor. I'd have thought it would cause problems with the fuel dropping out (of the airflow, leading to mixture problems).

That's what i thought too. my assumtion was that it was injected, but they must use single choke carb.

Single choke job, 40mm diameter? Something close to those 'baked bean tin' carbs fitted on M4 engines for a short time, perhaps? ken. Russell wrote: That's what i thought too. my assumtion was that it was injected, but they must use single choke carb.

OOooo! Know I shouldn't, but I quite like the look of that conversion, especially if it is easy to fit/remove and won't damage paintwork.
