I say had, because all those retro features disappeared when it was 'restored' - in an urban environment, as you might have guessed... <grits teeth> Quote: It also gained an identity from 1953 at the same time, which made it by far the earliest pre-production prototype 400! Ah, rather like the 1960 Lohr that was in 2cvgb mag? Three guesses where that one had been, too.

 Re: 2cv Vans: Dummies Guide
You can list houses, rocks and even 'urban features,' so why can't we have 'listed vehicles.' I'm al for modernising and keeping my D*lly up to date but if a car's rare or unique would be cool to have it 'protected' although completely un-enforceable Van history is so cool

Pete, pity, now that Winter's here, I like good fireside stories... ken ( I remember during Roger's ownership of that van, one of the o/s tie rods had been 'repaired' by someone overlapping the broken bits and aiming the mig in that general area. Certainly gave it a jaunty stance on the road, leaning over into the gutter. ) pete wrote: It was certainly there - can't remember whether it was for sale, though. It subsequently had some 'interesting' times, but that's a whole other story...

 Re: 2cv Vans: Dummies Guide
a couple of small ripple spanish registered, small ripple 400's: both badged AK 400! Were the factory simply using up side panels left over from 350 production?

And what's with the extra seam on the side panel of the first one? Looks to be about the right height for the "raise" between 350 & 400...

 Re: 2cv Vans: Dummies Guide
Now there's a thing Given that it would appear that Vigo were given all the obsolete stuff to use up, like curly door handles and M4 engines, could it be that they were also handed the remaining stock of small ripple panels? Amazing! Where were the photos taken, Neil, and do you have any idea when the vans were built? By the time Dave Middleton's Spanish 400 was built (1976), it was the same spec. as French market models, with the addition of the badge, of course. It's all getting very fascinating, and it's be good to find out more about what was going on there. I suppose the easy route would be to ask a Spaniard - in 3 and a half years time, if no earlier opportunity presents itself...

 Re: 2cv Vans: Dummies Guide
PS The indicators on the front wings on the second one are non-standard (either fitted later or a factory add-on, I guess), but the point is that that makes them '350' wings, to all intents and purposes.
I think the seam may actually be an ali trim strip, Adrian, looking at the rear view. Dead posh - never seen that before...

 Re: 2cv Vans: Dummies Guide
PPS And they called them AK 400, which makes us lot saying 'no such thing' look a bit daft....
