while mooching around the 'net & checking out the 'specialists' 'sites to see what's currently out there & available i stumbled across this gem:

nice & shiny, eh? hmmm, that looks like a pre suffix plate, or rather a plate dished out by the DVLA after a car's been imported, or re-registered, being a pre suffix that would've originally been dished out to a 1963 or earlier car?

Anyway, i did a little check on the DVLA 'site using the 'plate on the above & this is the result:

The enquiry is complete

The vehicle details for MSL 979 are:

Date of Liability 01 01 2010
Date of First Registration 01 09 1998
Year of Manufacture 1956
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 602CC
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type Petrol
Export Marker Not Applicable
Vehicle Status Licence Not Due
Vehicle Colour BLACK
Vehicle Type Approval null

1956! that's a bit naughty, dontcha think?!

Jesting are'nt they?? :? Question is...who's fobbing it off as a '56? :x

The usual suspects.
Purveyors of over-priced and under-quality ringers to mugs for a decade.
Caravans supplied to order, delivery available outside business hours at no extra cost.

Just looked at the site that those pics came from.

Some very expensive cars on there, especially the 'show cars' of which this was one. Was this the company who sold the Beachcomber for £9k?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to defend anybody in particular but is this thread designed to enable us to discuss the horrors that we've discovered whilst renovating our own cars or is it a vehicle for thinly disguised slagging off of commercial companies?

If we are allowed to tell of our experiences of individual traders and warn others of dodgy dealers, is this the thread to do it or is it worth having a seperate & dedicated thread? I am all for warning fellow enthusiasts about malpractice, but I think we need to be careful how we do it.

Like I say, I have no commercial interest in any particular company and whilst no trader has been specifically named, I think it's obvious who we're referring to.

I don't think any thread is "designed". They just happen.

If you've got something to say about somebody, say it, says I.

In that case, why not just name the offending company then? Fair enough mate, just don't want anyone to get into trouble that's all.

I don't want to name people cos I don't want my arse fried, I was pretty much having a whinge at the pile of crap I'm working on at the moment, but all bodgery is welcomed in this thread, be it the illegal ringing of cars by rogue 2cv traders or the piss poor work I've been dealing with, I just dont wanna get my ringpiece kicked over it!

With that specific car though, I think it might be tricky for the purveyor to actually take action against whoever has said owt, simply because what they have done is illegal anyways.
