Yup! Nice piece of 2CV tech - pity it'd wasn't included on the Wall of Fame though!

Anyway, what's the deal with the cars reg plate AD 534 WW?

I though french plates ended with a dept number. Saw a few like this with letters during the summer and wondered then.

Big revolution in car registration in France. Since May all new cars have had the new style numbers [2 letters, 3 numbers, 2 letter] and since 16th October all cars changing ownership have been issued with the new numbers. The department number can be put on the opposite side to the Euro and F symbol but this is optional. Bit sad to see the changes but all in the cause of NPR you know.

A test on three ap's for hand held devices to make them sat navs. Done in Paris using a very nice red 2CV, even had yellow headlamps. I think you should be able to find it on their iplayer [channel 5] sadly forbidden to those who live in foreign climes.

Its slightly wrong though as I said earlier in posts, the department number is optional NOT mandatory as Wiki says.

Well spotted Image.

I agree, it was formerly only necessary to know the département number as registration databases were held locally for vignette taxation purposes. France now has a centralised registration database and the vignette is effectively no more. I've therefore edited the Wiki article.
