Snowy's cosmetic surgery is continuing, and she now has some rather splendid new door cards (home made!). Her split bulkhead has now been welded up, as has her rusty rear end. However, her bulkhead is now rather naked and noisy, and bulkhead cladding is expensive.

Does anyone have any good (inexpensive) suggestions for how to clad the bulkhead interior? I'm considering using a sheet of Celotex (polyurathane) rigid battening, as used in the building trade. Anyone tried this?

Also, I'd like to batten/lag the doors and boot. Again, anyone got any hot tips?

When I did some additional soundproofing on my 2cv, I got some fireproof matting soundproofing stuff from my local motor factors, and some spray adhesive to mount it. Wasn't expensive and I expect some places must sell it. I used self adhesive neoprene strip that I bought from Aldi. Other places might sell it as it was originally designed to line the inside walls of a garage so you don't bang your car door when you open it. It sticks well and did a very neat job, all for a fiver.



The lower part was done with purpose made thick felt from bought from Frosts, but I covered it over with rubber sheeting to stop any drips of water soaking into it. Finally the rubber mat went back in on top of that.

Friendly advise Get rid of the rubber mats. Water get underneath and eat your floors. Also drill two 4 mm holes in the floors for the water to drain out. RUST NEVER SLEEP

Snowy, I started it around June I think it was, progress has been sporadic since then as I'm very easily distracted with other stuff. I hope to have it done and dusted, and back on the road by March of next year.




Good point. I have sprayed the floors with anti-stonechip, and will cover them in waxoyl before putting back the rubber mats. In the UK water is more likely to come up through any holes drilled in the floor than drain out of them I'm afraid. The occasional drip from the wiper spindle area when landing on top of the rubber mat should evaporate before it becomes a problem.

The boot-lid bandit apart, I've managed to restore most of my original panels without too much grief. The recent, (and ridiculous) amount of local wind and rain up here has kept me indoors of an evening rather than out in the garage doing stuff though.

I took interest in this soundproofing thread because what I hope to do is soundproof the doors, the bootlid (Grrr..) and other bits, to see if a cumulative effect can be achieved.

It's odd, some 2cvs I drive feel quiet and smooth, whereas some feel noisy and coarse, but I've never been able to pin down why..
