 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
I've never understood the logic of electronics despite the years of lessons. Yet I got a job last year, testing circuit boards used in lifts. Quite worrying really.

 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
The metal that wires are made from consists of lot of little molecules with gaps between them which are filled with smoke, and the insulation is there to hold the smoke in. If the insulation gets broken, for example where the wire passes through a bulkhead, then the smoke escapes and the wires don't work any more.

Many a true word spoken in jest, since those pesky electrons flow from -ve to +ve... ...or so we're informed by those lucky folk who can actually spot the little varmints in their 'scopes. ken Russell wrote: sopwithcamel wrote: What if, like on a Morris Minor, it happens to be + earth? It would go from - to + then It doesn't work like that does it? No Bart, you're right, I probably don't want to learn!

I know how pneumatics work, and i know how hydraulics work, because I can see or feel things moving along hoses and forcing other things to move. With elecricity, nothing appears to move until 'electricity' makes it move. How does that work?
I'm the other way round Russ - I've been an electrician/electronics technician for the last 23 yrs and I'd much rather have a few hundred volts to work with instead of Psi. You're talking about 2 slightly different things there Limes. Electrics tends to be the wires, motors & generators side of things whereas electronics are components & control circuits really.

 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
Well the shame of it, I've just looked back and found that I hadn't done any work on my old 2cv project for at least three months! I still haven't, but I've just done a post that says I'm about to...er...so I must be. http://olsnails2cv.blogspot.com/
