This van history is more complicated than I'd ever imagined...

Are they welded or bolted to the van? What reinforcement on the inside of the spare wheel/fuel tank compartments? Some good close photos and measurements would be great - there's no difference between a car and a small van, legally, over here - so anything after the mid '60s needs belts, which means I need to add them. The lower mounts are easy, since we're changing the sills and chassis anyway. The top one's the problem. It seems likely that they'd have been spot-welded in at the factory (quicker, therefore cheaper), and that's how most of them are that you see. It seems equally likely that they would have been available as a part for aftermarket fitting, which most would have preferred to bolt in. Both are acceptable in terms of structural integrity (and passing MOTs in Blighty!). Btw, 1967 is the start year for seat belts in commercial vehicles - a couple of years after saloons. Still pre-dates Hetty, though, Adrian! I've never found them all that comfortable in terms of position, to be honest. Welding the mountings from the B-posts of a scrap saloon in the same spot works very nicely, as on Stimpy and several other vans that I look after...

Do we go by what's parked there, or the identity it's gained over the years...? <grin> Quote: I've never found them all that comfortable in terms of position, to be honest. Static, ideally, although I'm certain I've done at least one with inertia reels (using the mounting in a 'modern' sill) without them fouling the seat frames.

Putting the reel on the front mount, presumably? BTW, Russ... Got a pair of B-pillar seatbelt mounts and a set of inertia-reel belts in that shed of yours?

Sorry Adrian, you're a few hours too late, as nothing in the shed is mine anymore!
Old man Higgs' 400 has toyota seatbelts, photgraphs of which I shall provide one day.
