 Crank and horsepower????
Hi.
How many Hp. and Nm. can crank, connecting rods and bearings withstand?
Pistons, cylinders and cylinder heads I am not afraid of.
With my project, I am and will test the engine pieces to the extreme.what will be the first to break????

 Re: Crank and horsepower????
Lars, I've never seen a broken 2CV con rod yet and from what I've heard, isn't it usually the crankshaft itself which will let go at sustained high rpm ? This was quite a good effort, however its damage started at the top and spread downwards rapidly once the top of the piston came adrift. The trigger was an inlet valve head becoming detached from its stem, so I understand... ken.

 Re: Crank and horsepower????
You need to ask the racing folks. I've seen crank shaft split in two on a street car. This one was never looked after. When I opened the engine, the oil was like rubber and lost its lubrications ability. Overheating killed this timing gear and the rest of the engine Attachment: crank shaft.JPG

Harper did one at Mondello he wears the little end round his neck as a "talisman" at 24hrs Lars my money is on little end bush giving up or running big ends at those revs! 5 piece cranks more fragile next is gudgeon pin seen one shattered like glass but "ahem" may have been less than standard....saying nothing. Re: Crank and horsepower????
old oil and overheating is not something I think is a problem, oil is changed for every 4000km, or before a race. gear oil does not get much more than 5000km old. The engine has an extra 13 rows oil cooler

 Re: Crank and horsepower????
Sort of on Topic.... Before the days of turbos, the rule of thumb was 1000cc could deliver 100bhp. So the potential is 60.2 bhp . Just started the "rattle of death" from my offroad car @ 29bhp
