Post tank or fuel line problem?
Took the 2CV out for the first time in a few weeks. Going well but a strong smell of petrol coming from the boot area. No obvious sign of leaks or excessive fuel consumption. Checked the connection between the filler tube and the tank, which is new, and that looks ok.
Looks like I'll have to get under and get the tank out to have a look.
Anyone fitted one of those extended tanks? Might be worth considering whilst I've got it out.

Didn't know you could get a bigger tank. Seems a good idea.

Hope you find your leak. Modern rubber is such bad quality, I'd inspect anything I've replaced.

Ecas and the 2CV shop both sell the extended 38 litre tank made by Burton. Ecas have a video of the fitting but it looks like it's on a brand new chassis so looks dead easy.
My petrol smell only occurs after the car is driven, so could be petrol sloshing out somewhere. If I just run the engine it seems ok.

I'll post when I drain the tank and get chance to get the 2cv over the pit.
I'm getting error messages on this site when I open it. Not sure what's happening.
Thanks for the replies.

I keep getting those error messages, and the site usually only works when I switch my VPN to the UK.

I had the problem with the fuel smell once too, and it turned out that the seal between the tank and the fuel sensor was leaking.
Also check the rubber seal on the fuel cap.

You can get the tank out but you don't have to go on a pit. Just lay on you back and get it surpport it with your knees....
Don't do it like my brother, he unscrewed an almost full tank that hit im in the face when the bolts got out....;-)

Well, not sure if it's just the petrol is lower in the tank or it was a loose cap on my spare petrol can but the on the last couple of runs the problem seems to have gone away. I'll probably find out when I fill it up.
The filler pipe and rubber grommet were recently replaced and all looks good there.

PS: OK laying on my back but getting up again not so easy! So I'll stick to the pit :)
