 Re: We have liftoff.....
Soo, busy weekend, painting and cleaning.... Drum assembly removed and cleaned up, ready for transfer to the "new" box, (which originally had disks....). Did a big order tonight including new shoes etc, original Wheel cylinders were like new, obviously recently replaced. 2 days of cleaning, followed by some paint....freed off track adjusters and castle nuts Are these cans terminal??? seems to be a very thin plate attached to the can ends......cans are otherwise solid

 Re: We have liftoff.....
You should take at least one of the caps of by grinding the weld of from the front side. The caps are available from Ecas or any other 2CV shop. If the inside is clean and rustfree , the cans are oke. In my case one of the springs inside was broken, but the whole inside was also covered in grease. You should apply Rhicinus oil , no grease , after you have installed the spring cans again to the vehicle, turn the cans , so that the oil is evenly spread.

 Re: We have liftoff.....
Ricinus oil = castor oil. But I think I have seen it suggested that colza oil (= rapeseed oil) is just as effective and probably a lot cheaper.

 Re: We have liftoff.....
So got some time in project today......cleanup and a splash of paint for new gearbox. Got the backplates swapped over for the drums and took the wheel cylinders apart to check. Then I spent a happy few hours with gaiters.......the middle gaiters must have been designed by a psychopath who was having a bad day...the most awkward, annoying and slippery things I ever had to handle. To make matters worse, I found a tear on the one I thought was reusable Even the new rubber bobbins for the gear-change were a pain to fit I swear this is my last ever project !! Track rod end rubbers tomorrow.................
