 435 to 602
Hi Folks,
Is there a definitive, step by step guide for this swap??
I've read the cats-citroen.com website but still have some confusion....
I have a '74 AZU250, with 435cc/drums and on an original chassis. My first 500mile drive home was not a pleasant experience.....pretty scary on any kind of incline...
I can get an M28 with box and discs, I assume I would need new rear cylinders/master Cly, fluid flush ...anything else needed??? Any handbrake issues
Should I get the M28 and look for a 602 drummer gearbox?
Does anyone have a 602 drummer box in their shed?? Cheers Gerry

 Re: 435 to 602
If your brakes are ok they will work just as well.

 Re: 435 to 602
The original drum brakes were very good. Every bit as good as discs, and the handbrake was far superior. Maintenance was more difficult though. It sounds like yours need overhauling - you may find a leaky slave cylinder spoiling the plot.

Can't say I'm knowledgeable in this area.
But a bit confused as to the issue!
What was the issue coming back. Lack of power on incline, or lack of brakes on decline.
Guys, will an M28 fit on the 435 gearbox?

 Re: 435 to 602
I did a similar swap and used a later drum brake box. I never liked the small engine with the centrifugal clutch. The drum brakes are good. Good enough to snap the UV joint on one occasion. The only "problem" I had was that the chassis engine mounting holes are not wide enough for the 602, and I had to drill another hole in the chassis. My engine uses one original hole and one offset hole, so the engine is out of alignment a little bit - but no major problem in the last 20,000 km. - Oh and you need a new clutch and brake pedal assembly. Mail me if you want my notes on a 425 to 602 conversion. BobH

Guys, will an M28 fit on the 435 gearbox? It was the power on the incline.....no issues with the brakes !

 Re: 435 to 602
So, it would appear you can chuck a 602 on it as is (some work required for mount alignment). Personally, I would do that and worry about the gearbox later, if its working ok. From what I understand, the vans are a bit like trying to push a brick through the air, so a lower ration can be preferred. Try it )
