All, I've got a flexi pipe running down by the front wheel, only on one side. Is this meant to be connected to anything by the brakes? Or just aimed in general at the brake area? And in fact is there meant to be one on the other side too?

I always assumed this was an oil overflow pipe. (It kind of was too at one point, when my oil feed pipe leaked. Lol.)

After all these years, I cant believe this has only occurred to me!

There are or should be metal cooling ducts around the brake discs. But very often their feet brake due to vibrations. So very often they were just removed.

Thanks. I've never seen them, but I've only had the two 2cv's.

I have actually had overheated brakes once in this car, moving house for someone long distance. Coming down from a high place, I ended up having to use one of those emergency run off lanes. Drama! Lol.

Missing ducts might partly explain it.

If they're fitted properly, the ducts are great and you won't know they're there. It's when they go wonky and start rubbing on the discs that their presence is suddenly very noticeable!

The brake cooling ducts have been absent on my 2CV since it was re-chassied in 1997.
Maybe its the fact that my engine bay has no undertray fitted......but I've never once had brake fade [despite towing 300kg of Trailer Tent from time to time and driving it like I've stolen it for the rest of the time].

I think my total brake fade (literally no effective brakes!) was due to really warped discs - they were like it when I got the car and after this incident I got them changed.

I've no undertray either Terry. Never seen one of those. I definitely drive it like I stole it too, its the only way :)
