Post Ignition key
Hi all :)
The keys are missing from my Bedouin. :(
Can you take the ignition lock apart without destroying it?
Has anyone ever filed a blank key to fit an ignition without having an original as a template?
Is there a serial number for a key hidden anywhere on the lock?
Cheers :D

I think the only practical solution is a new lock.
I had a key with a serial number but it didn't seem to mean anything to any of the suppliers when I tried to get a duplicate made.

I dont know how these are put together - I've been able to take apart locks and rearrange the plates to suit a key, in the past. Hasn't always worked, but I've got a friendly old school lock smith who happily does that for me if I need.

When I lost my keys (Nightmare) I found an old record where I'd written down the key serial number. My garage was able to get a new key easily.

Citroen (and Peugeot) dealers in the UK used to use a company called "Access Keys & Locks": From the key number, (or even a clear photocopy), they would cut a key to match and post it to the dealer.
Their website, (here: http://www.accesskeyandlock.co.uk/), says that they have changed their name to "Croma", and has a link to here: http://www.cromalocksmiths.com/.
Obviously this is no help if you have no key to copy but if you have a record of the key number somewhere, it might be useful.

Thanks Banjo (indeed all of you), but that sounds a bit beyond my budget.
I have disable the steering lock and fitted an ignition switch in the dash.
Anyone know if I require a steering lock for the MOT? It was registered in 1978.

From the MOT testers manual:

If there is doubt as to whether a steering lock was originally fitted, the benefit of the doubt should be given.

It is acceptable for a steering lock to be removed if it has been replaced with another immobilisation device.

There is no requirement for a steering lock on vehicles as old as any 2CV. I can't remember what year it applies after but it's well after the last 2CV was made.

Sorry, missed that bit off of my other post.

The inspection of the steering lock only applies to passenger cars with:

. a steering lock fitted as standard by the manufacturer, and

. four or more wheels, and

. not more than 8 passenger seats excluding the driver’s seat, and

. first used on or after 1 September 2001
