sounds as though you've got a good one, since the tolerances specified by Citroen for rear wheel toe-in were 0 to 8mm for cars built prior to 1969 and 0 +/- 4mm thereafter... ;)

Citroen did seem to use 'selective assembly' to avoid any problems with the finished article crabbing, but the plot seems to have been lost when assembly moved to the Portuguese plant, since rapid wear on the outside edge of the n/s/r tyre was a common problem with some of those cars, but relatively easy to sort with the correct length of an *arm bender*.

* An item often to be found lurking in someone's garage at 2CV racing events, best to know in advance just which one during a 24 hour race, with that extra track time increasing the chances of it needing to be deployed. :roll:

Sean, can I infer from this that you might have expected the "factory setting" to be zero toe-in? No one else seems to have directly answered the first question I put up...
That (zero) is indeed what I would have guessed...and was surprised to discover it wasn't!
Not only that, but 'twere different on either side. And more than 1mm, too. And no - it has never been bingled.

So now ... does anyone have suggestions on setting/changing the toe-in? Big cheater bar? Or more technically, shims of some sort? Hydraulics as per a chassis straightening rig?

Thanks Ken ... I'm wondering where you sourced those toe-in figures? Don't think they're in Haynes(?)
Indeed it was the nearside rear which got me going on this topic. Scrubbed the outer edge from new evidently (I'm the 3rd owner, btw).

Citroen's repair manual 008121, "Characteristics, Adjustments, Checks", as cribbed by Haynes with a few bits 'lost in translation'... :lol:
It's been scanned and is available online, if you can't locate it, will find the link later.

(It's a very early start tomorrow, tree surgeon is due bright and early to attend to a couple of silver birches which are getting too big for their boots.)

Just looked again at my copy of Haynes, this time having donned me reading specs and yes - there it is at the head of chapter 9 ... apologies Ken.
And good luck with the silver birches. We have a couple of very good sized gum trees which can occasionally shed limbs. Thankfully they're not too close to the house!
