Have used over 10 years on my 12v Dyane, with 9 winters, and it started well at more than -30C°... Only disadvantage what I have found, the brushes wear quite fast, needed to replace about once in every year when driven about 30000-50000km/year... For the first start I did about the same, feeding 24volt to my 12 volt starter motor... Don't know if 6 volt startermotor will do the trick.. Cranking it by hand I can hardly turn it with a 30cm wrench..... and now I'm happy with the startermotor shown above...

 Re: BMW 2cv engine conversion
Certainly no reduction gear in any 2cv starter motor. 6 volt 2cv starter motors are commonly used on 12 volts by 2cv crossers. Pony wrote: as far as i am aware only starters for diesel cars have a reduction gear inside them! pony

(draining the garantee down the bin) Now this is what the diffrence makes.. just as my starter-motor-guy told.... And I still don't believe a 6 volt starter motor (on 12 volt) will turn a 1200cc Beamer.... This is not a 600cc engine you know and offcourse I won't try it either...

 Re: BMW 2cv engine conversion
A 6 volt Traction starter working off 12 volts turns the Traction engine. Not too much bigger in size of motor

 Re: BMW 2cv engine conversion
als with a traction it has to 'push' only 475 cc (1900/4) at a time with low compression (as subarupete mentioned) also the tooth and mountingpoints of a traction are probably different, so tha chances this will work are pretty slim.
I guess the way to go like Joolz and LPGO do, get yourself a decent startermotor with buit in gears!
