Looking how straightforward the job is, it's a shame Citroen didn't design the main body to just unscrew rather than weld it together. Replacing the rubber parts could have been done with the bottom section still attached to the engine.

Jonathan,
Citroen crimped the breather halves together.
Last thing you'd want to do is work on one with the bottom half still attached to the engine, there'd be a chance of dropping a small, vital part down into the crankcase.
You're familiar with Murphy's Law, I'd guess... ;)

I did it the same way, only not as fast as you did.
I think I am going to practice more and beat you to it!

The only slight problem that I had was that As I had fixed the breather to the engine angain, it was difficult to tighten the alternator belt , the bottom ring got in the way, so I had to file a bit off so that the alternator just got past it freely .

Straightforward?! I'll have you know this is an extremely difficult job. Admittedly, my (ahem) legendary mechanic skills made it look easy, but I can assure you it's practically impossible without a blackbelt!

Can't help but wonder whether this breather was an early forerunner of the modern phenomenon of a car company creating non-user-serviceable parts for their vehicles.

Excellent video, good job. I wonder if we should group together all these handy threads somewhere as a reference section or something.

Great movie, good music, thanks.
I still have the old breather, I will give it a go. Have the modern one installed now (the repair set wasn't available at the time of purchase) . Works great so...
But I like the 'old' looks of the original thing.
