I was going to make some sort of sacrificial cage under the engine, similar to the rear of your ami, it's a good idea!

I'm using 'repurposed' road signs for my sump guard. They are free and take plenty of abuse and weigh very little. I think they're a type of duralumin.

You have 42.8mm (which works for my 1200cc)

R=22.5mm

42.7975mm ;-) yes centre rad=22.5mm

I just done that quick drawing and set the dimensions like that to use as co-ordinates from 0,0 for reference on the Mill. Made it a simple process then finding each hole centre.

I have a 3 jaw chuck which rotates 360 degrees, so it is a lot easier to make this way on my mill...

Today a milled my Torx bolts down to hexagone 16mm with the same procedure, turning the chuck 60 degrees each time.. The Torx heads were 4 or 5mm to high (blocking the cluctchplate) so I turned them down first about 5mm...

So no more excuses, only thing left is to get some paint at the adaptorplate and then put it into a car... 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) I know what I'm doing this Xmas holyday....

Dinner for one I suppose....

Found the problem why I hadn't any compression at the right cilinder.. Zero play in the outlet valves so probably they are open al the time a little... I don't know why I checked them in the first place.... Checking the valves is almost equal to a 2cv only everting times 2... So now the compression feels the same as the left cilinder... so even more power out of "the beast" (however didn't try (TO LOUD at this time of day))...

Valve-clearance is .15mm for inlet valve and .30mm for the outlet valve, engine needs to be cold..

did a last fitting engine to gearbox, spacer is maybee still a little long (about 2 or 3mm) but I leave it this way for now.......

Post Re: BMW 2cv engine conversion
Been playing with mine - ordered a ticker killer (butter fly is worn on RH body - very common apparently)

Looked as sump guards on the net and there are a lot of after market ones that seem to be fairly hard core - but charge hard core money too.

For the time being I'll make up a H or Z frame type thing and mount it on some bobbin mounts.

What are your thoughts on solid mounting the engine? I've been thinking about putting an extra set of mounts at the rear of the sump and then solid mounting at the front and sump. I guess this will give me a lot more noise but should stiffen the chassis up.

I've also tried balancing the throttle bodies a bit better however it's in vein really until the ticker killer arrives, which I can't wait for as at idle it sounds like the big ends or the input shaft is about to completely fall apart! Grab the throttle body and it sounds gorgeous!

Post Re: BMW 2cv engine conversion
I strongly believe in my "double Dutch" 2cv front mounts at the rear of the engine..
I think this is spot on. Because it is about 50 cm to the rear the chassis has less stress, maybee I put some 2mm C plates at the outsides of the chassis... and as told before I will make a L shape profile at the rearend of the gearbox just like backdiff of Mehari 4x4...

I also like my twin 2cv carbs with my linkage... Now I adjusted the valves I know for sure it will just run fine on this carbs.... I think I will do as I told, lean the mixure of and put the ignition to about 4 degrees after TDC at idle. (This was common at old V8-engines) so it will bring the iddle down to about 850 rpm I hope...

At last I know one thing for sure... There is a lot and I mean really a lot of power in this engine.... snipping the throttle will immidiatly rev the engine to 6k and more rpm... I think there is even a faster responce in the carbs then with injection....

Since the last time I run the engine I call it "the beast" and that is what it is a real beast...

I can't wait to put it in a car (still haven't made a decision (Ami 8 or '55 2cv) next week I will make a decision...

p.s. 1-2-spark is also doing great here... but for me that isn't a surprise anymore

3 times huray for Beamer engines...
