Post Re: BMW 2cv engine conversion
Today was productive...

First I shortend the flywheel bolts by grinder and the last bit in the lathe

Then I attached the flywheel with spacer to the gearbox. But the spacer was about 5mm to long... So engine out flywheel off shortening the spacer and bolts again and reverse..

At last the flywheel was torqed up to 40nm (didn't do the 40 degrees it needs to come off at least 1 more time... (painting the adaptorplate in 1-2-spark orange)..

Then I put in the clutchplate and pressure-plate??? Again some problems, the bolts are to long I need to shorten them or take the integrated washers off (or both) but for now I leave it like this

Then I attached the engine to the gearbox again and lowered it onto the double Dutch engine mounts.. almost perfect fit, only the engine needs tom move 10mm to the left..
Engine out again and shorten 1 leg of the adapterplate.. Engine in again eh voila

un moteur flotant.... aa floating engine, its looks like magic without engine mounts at the front..

I think my solution with the double Dutch 2cv front engine mounts rocks....

At last I starded to make the seam along the outerline of the adaptorplate and I love it again, I think this will bring massive strenght to the adaptorplate... I have no worries about that anymore

So this is it for today... I've got a good feeling about it.... we will see..

yes they had to rebuild gearboxes but a 2cv gearbox with that load and treatment it still isn't bad how long they took the battering. I did see a pic on the french camping with a GS engine lying in front af one car. So probably it had a GS engine.

I like your "double Dutch" engine mountings - creative thinking ! - I presume there will be no front engine mountings ?

Believe it or not, I was just thinking about you, needed to send an email to you that the 1-2-Spark is on it's way to you, now I don't

No there will be no enginemounts at the front. Gs(a) don't have them either, I don't know why but for me it feels right like this, I have already the adapter so why not making it bagger and attach the engine-mounts to it... In the front I now have lots of space to put oilcoolers on ect... it's a win win situation...

The question might be asked; why didn't they use GS or GSA gearboxes in Africars?
There's so much preaching about design concepts in the book, using a gearbox which was designed for less than 50% of the chosen engine's output seems not to fit...

The Pembleton floats the engine in front of the chassis like this so it looks like a Morgan - I think they pick up the top 2 engine/g'box studs with a tube frame mount to the scuttle.

All looking amazing, wonderful stuff!!
