Looks naked without bike on the roofrack....

however with a bike on the roofrack - on the car - on the trailer would be the heaviest bike carier by far

Depending on your location, over here it's not really necessary at the moment.

Nels,
I'm not sure why the distance travelled should be of any relevance, since the engine should reach its 'steady state' temperature not long into a journey.
Last week was typical October weather, so I fitted the grille muff on the Dyane for a run along the M62 to the galvanizers in Hull with 5 chassis on the trailer, then collected about 500kg of parts for the home run.
Mind you, there's a weather anomaly on the way this weekend if the Met Office is on the ball, so best start looking for that barbeque... ;)

Ken it has nothing to do with the distance you travel, but speed.... Even the instruction-manuals of Citroen (at least here in Holland) say to remove the wintermuff when going (over long distances on the motorway).. And if I trailer a freight of 500 kg or more (probably towing a 2cv) which is illegal in a 2cv B.T.W. even in mid winter I take always take the wintermuff off... even in our winters (min. to -10 degrees Celcius)... Watch your oiltemp young man :P :P :P :P :P

lpgo,
no mention of speed or motorway use in the UK Owner's Manual, only the advice "to fit the grille muff below 10*C and remove it above 15*C".
Watching the air temperature, rather than the oil temperature, seems to have worked just fine for me during 34 years of driving only A series Citroens.

Only longer lumps of metal were on the trailer, so about 200kg of smaller items in the car... ;)
