I do believe my engines are properly tuned, so the only thing to make it use less fuel and or more topspeed is.... shut down the fan when it is not needed.....

2cv fan is far more efficient than an electric fan As I wrote, couple pages ago, I tried. And no, I don't try again... What I meant about thinking, was the power what original fan takes, about ten times more than good electric fan, so that must tell something (for at least electronic engineers, including me)... It would we worth of something, to make measurement with some high-power electronic motor with original fan, at least then the difference to electric fan can be found -if someone still thinks it would be reasonable to even think to use electric fan...

On my hilux i have a viscous fan, which kicks in when it gets to 60 degrees..
Its oil filled which is what locks it up and makes it work
It works without fail, and requires re oiling every few years apparently which im yet to need to do
You can hear it kick in and lock up, i loose a few hp with it working but rather that than fuck the engine
(Most people dont re oil and thats why the hilux surf has common over heating and head problems)

Your missing 1 important piece here... in front of the Hilux fan sits the radiator.. so when the radiator heats up the fan reacts on the heat and starts to lock up.... putting such a fan in a 2cv won't work because it doesn;t heat up by the lack of heat... the heat comes behind the fan in a 2cv...

I like the idea of shifting the oil cooler and using all the flow from the fan to go over the heads. In conjunction with thermostatically valved extra oil cooling that could perhaps solve the problem.
Could you improve flow by using a fan to suck on the heat exchanger dump tube, or position the dump tubes so they end in such a location as to attract a bit more vacuum?

Any fan smsll enough to fit in the end of the heater dump tubes would only restrict the airflow. I believe that wherl arches are a low pressure zone, so the dump tubes are well placed already. Having said that you will notice race cars with large vents cut into the fenders behind the wheels, this reduces lift by 7%-10% increaseing the frontal down force thus traction. It would be practical on the 2cv but messy up the side of the car! Harley

Need some pipework to do with this, maybe the place for cooler can be front of the engine in Dyane, without restricting airflow to engine..?

@Jasu This was my setup for oil cooler + Filter with my clutch Fan. The pipes + adaptor block are a tight fit but it can be done. Removed the oil cooler from the front of engine, used proper oil pipe to bypass, oil pressure is very high when the engine is cold. Also used a 120mm fan 12 volt with metal blades (from ebay) underneath the oil cooler, probably not needed. The Oil cooler + filter all worked OK, but the Clutch Fan was not reliable for Road/Daily use. Clutch Fan. Oil Cooler + Remote Filter Attachment: oil cooler.jpg
