 Quality of repo tie rods

Post Quality of repo tie rods
I would like to be able to lower my car more :twisted:
Can anyone comment on the quality of these parts from Ecas?

On the other hand I would like to know that they are threaded all the way in so that I can still raise the car to the max to go raiding!

Can't comment on thread depth, but ECAS only sell quality parts with a first class after sales service if problems do occur.

If ECAS buys them from Burton, which look the same as that on on the picture... I can say they look good (can look in the material and weld obviously) I just fitted a set of Burton eyes last weekend.
Mine were not threaded all the way but just 15 to 20mm simular to original Citroen ones. The rest was just hollow, however not sure if they are hollow over their entire length. I would ask Roy to be sure.

Harley,
isn't the required length of thread engagement in a bolted connection usually quoted as "at least 1 x nominal diameter of the thread"?

After that, any extra threads will be contributing very little to the strength of the connection, which is why Citroen only threaded that portion of the original tie rod ends which had a reduced external diameter.

I'd be more worried about that part of the thread on the tie rods which has been exposed to the atmosphere for a couple of decades; the threads on original tie rods were rolled rather than cut, but any loss of metal due to corrosion could be a problem if you need to wind them right into those longer tie rod ends...

Good point ken, I assumed thy would be a full thread internally as opposed to a length of thread and cavity (not knowing how they are manufactured).
I guess if they where fully threaded it would aid with the point you raised about the corroded thread on the tie rods. I had not considered the effect of the corroded threads, better check them out.
